About 300 out of the 560 dams promised by the Nana Addo-led government under its flagship ‘One-Village-One-Dam’ project are 90 percent complete, Minister for Special Development Initiative, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has said.
According to her, the spillways, embankment, grazing and other final works make up the 10 percent left to complete the project.
In an interview on Accra-based Adom FM, Hawa Koomson stated that to prevent evaporation, tress will be planted along the banks of the dams.
She said the dams were in different stages of completion, but those at Bulsa North and South, Chiana Paga, Pusiga, Bolgatanga East and Central, Bawku Central, Wa East and West, Binduri and Nandom were 90 percent completed.
“We are really working hard to ensure the five Northern regions get water all year round, so we are not bothered about machinations of detractors,” she noted.
She expressed appreciation to the chiefs who willingly offered lands for the project and bemoaned how some people were determined to run down the good works of the government, though it is to the greater good of the people.
Mavis Hawa Koomson assured of prompt completion of all the dams before 2020.
