17-Year-Old Adongo Akurugu to Referee at 2025 CAF Schools Championship

Seventeen-year-old Adongo Angelous Akurugu has earned a place among the selected referees for the 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship, set to be held in Accra from April 21 to 26.

A student of Navrongo Senior High School and a native of Navrongo in Ghana’s Upper East Region, Adongo’s rise in officiating began through the “Catch Them Young” refereeing initiative in Ghana, a program launched by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in August 2020 to identify, train, and develop young refereeing talent across the country.

His officiating journey includes stints at major youth tournaments such as the KGL U-17 competition, the Division One League Super Cup held in Abrankese in 2023 and in Nsoatre in 2024. He also took charge of matches during the WAFU Africa Schools Championship Qualifiers in Niger last year and was recently on duty in the quarterfinal clash between Attram De Visser and PAC Academy during the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

With consistent performances and a growing reputation, Adongo is quickly emerging as one of Ghana’s most promising young referees.
