Residents of Barekese in the Ashanti Region have been left in shock after a 16-year-old student of Offinso-Namong Senior High School was found dead inside a freezer in her home.
The teenager, identified as Rita, had reportedly been preparing to leave for school on the morning the tragic incident occurred.
According to family members, her mother had earlier asked her to accompany her to the market, but the young girl declined, saying she needed time to get ready for school.
Hours later, Rita’s mother attempted to reach her on the phone but was unable to get through. Growing worried, she returned home only to discover that the door to their room had been locked from the inside.
With no response coming from the room, she forced the door open.
The disturbing discovery came moments later. A friend of Rita’s mother had earlier brought some dough to be kept in the family’s freezer.
When the mother went to store the dough, she found her daughter’s lifeless body inside the appliance.
Police have since begun investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death, while the community mourns the sudden loss of the young student whose life ended under mysterious conditions.
