A total of 156 new COVID-19 cases have been recorded, bringing Ghana’s total case count to 6,964.

“As at May 24, 2020, a total of 156 new cases had been recorded in Ghana. And this shows the new trend of much fewer cases.”

The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS),  Dr. Patrick Kumah Aboagye, announced the new figures at a news conference on Tuesday, May 26.

Some 2,097 persons have also recovered from the disease with the death toll at 32.

According to Dr Aboagye, the new cases were recorded in five out of the 16 regions across the country.

Out of the new 156 cases, the Greater Accra Region recorded 72 new infections. The Western Region came second with 57 new infections. This was followed by the Central Region with 13 new cases; the Volta Region also recorded an increase of 10 cases and the Ashanti Region recorded four.

“There are 15 people who are in severe condition. We don’t have anybody who is in a critical condition,” the GHS Director-General said.

The Savannah Region recorded its first COVID-19 case a week ago. Providing details of the infected person at the press briefing, Dr. Aboagye said the patient was discovered during an enhanced surveillance in that region.
