14 out of 7461 tested for coronavirus turns positive

Some 14 persons have tested positive for the deadly novel coronavirus in the ongoing mass contact tracing in Ghana.

The 14 people, according to the Minister of Health, Kweku Agyeman Manu, were part of some 15000 samples taken.

“Of the 15000 samples taken, 7461 has been processed and 14 of them have tested positive.” He said on Tuesday at a press briefing.

The Ghana Health Service through contact tracing reached some nineteen thousand, two hundred and seventy-six (19,276) persons and out of that results for fifteen thousand, three hundred and eighty-four (15,384) are out of which 14 people have tested positive.

President Nana Akufo-Addo in his fifth address to the nation said the result of the 15000 samples taken would determine the future of Ghana’s fight against the virus which has infected over 1.3 million people globally with close to 300, 000 recoveries and killed over 74.000 people.

So far, Ghana has recorded a total of 287 cases with five (5) deaths. The regional distribution of the cases are as follows: Greater Accra Region has most cases (258) followed by the Ashanti Region (18), Northern Region (10), Upper West Region (1), Eastern Region (1) and Upper East Region (1).
