In a significant effort to curb galamsey in Ghana, the Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested 13 people for engaging in illegal mining activities on the premises of the Akrokerri College of Education in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region.
The suspects were busted on Thursday, December 11, 2025, during a police operation that also led to the seizure of four water-pumping machines used in the illegal activity.
The arrested persons have been identified as:

2. Eric Owusu, 27
3. Emmanuel Opoku Awuah, 21
4. Mosea Terkpertey, 29
5. Emmanuel Appiah Harrison, 31
6. John Okrah, 31
7. Shadrack Sarfo, 23
8. Adu Desmond, 26
9. Abdul Wahab, 23
10. Elvis Abnce, 33
11. Sarfo Shadrack, 33
12. Nicholas Tetteh, 30
13. Darko Yaw, 23
Addressing the media at the Ashanti South Regional Police Command in Bekwai, Regional Commander DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba confirmed that all 13 suspects have been arraigned before court.
He further cautioned individuals involved in illegal mining and other criminal activities to desist from the unlawful activities or face justice.
“I advise all criminals to desist from their acts if they want their peace, and I further warn them that they will be pursued by my able officers, wherever they are hiding, including illegal miners,” he noted.
