A joint security operation has led to the arrest of 12 suspects believed to be involved in cybercrime and human trafficking activities across Ghana.

The arrests were carried out on March 12, 2026, through a coordinated effort between the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).

The operation brought together the Inspector General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team, the Surveillance Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters, and officers from the GIS.

According to a police statement issued on Saturday, the suspects are suspected of running organised cyber fraud schemes while also engaging in human trafficking related activities.

During the operation, officers retrieved 25 laptops and seven mobile phones believed to have been used in carrying out the alleged criminal activities.

Six other Nigerian nationals linked to the case are currently on the run and are being pursued by authorities.

Police said the suspects attempted to resist arrest by releasing German Shepherd dogs on the officers during the raid.

Reinforcements were later called in to support the team, allowing the operation to continue without further disruption.

Initial investigations suggest the group may be connected to several forms of cybercrime including internet fraud, identity theft, phishing scams, mobile money fraud, cyber extortion, blackmail, credit card and ATM fraud, as well as electronic forgery.

Investigators also believe there is a growing link between organised cybercrime networks and transnational migration activities.

A police statement noted that intelligence sharing and cooperation between agencies remain key in tackling such crimes.

“The Ghana Police Service is committed to intelligence-led operations, inter-agency coordination, and strict enforcement of the law to safeguard national security and maintain the integrity of Ghana’s digital and migration space,” the statement said.
