11 local players make Black Stars’ 55 provisional list for Afcon

Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has named a 55-man provisional squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The list comprises 11 Ghana Premier League players with champions Medeama SC having the most.

Medeama has five players in the squad, while Great Olympics and Dreams FC have two players each.

The others are from Asante Kotoko and Nations FC.

Thomas Partey, who is recovering from injury, has been included in the list with a place for Tariq Lamptey and Kamaldeen Sulemana, both nursing injuries.

Yaw Yeboah, who won the 2023 MLS Cup with Columbus Crew, gets a first call-up under Hughton, while EFL Championship club West Bromwich Albion striker Brandon Thomas-Asante also gets a first call-up.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) published the list on Wednesday, December 20, 24 days away from the start of the competition.

  9. Emmanuel Antwi- Accra Great Olympics
  10. Benjamin Asare- Accra Great Olympics
  11. Razak Sampson- Nations FC
