101 police officers promoted in 27 days

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted 17 additional police officers in acknowledgement of their exceptional professionalism and commitment to their duties.

This action increases the total number of individuals promoted by the IGP to 101 within a span of 27 days this year alone.

On January 15 of this year, 35 police officers were promoted due to their involvement in operations that resulted in the apprehension of suspects associated with the Adabraka daylight gold shop robbery. Additionally, two others received promotions following an intelligence-driven operation by the Tema Regional Police Command, which led to the seizure of 1,613 parcels of substances believed to be narcotic drugs along the Akosombo–Tema road.

Furthermore, five officers from the Tema Regional Police Command were presented with letters of commendation for their commitment and professionalism in their duties.

On January 14, 2026, 17 officers were promoted in recognition of their exemplary conduct and performance while on duty, while 30 personnel (on January 5) were also promoted for their roles in operations that resulted in the interception of 2,600 AK-47 ammunition being smuggled into northern Ghana from Accra, as well as the dismantling of a robbery syndicate in Antoakrom along the Manso Nkwanta stretch of the Ashanti Region during the Christmas season.

The 101 promotions do not account for the thousands of promotions pending this year, which has led to 40 personnel taking legal action against the police administration regarding promotion issues.

The IGP, along with members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), congratulated the officers on their promotions and praised them for maintaining the core values of the Service through discipline, courage, and professionalism.

In response to this development, Mr. Tetteh-Yohuno encouraged the promoted officers to regard their advancement as a call to greater responsibility and urged all personnel to persist in their diligent work.

He reminded them that excellence and integrity are the foundations for recognition and promotion within the Ghana Police Service.
