10-year-old Electrocuted, Another Injured As ECG Cable Falls At Gomoa Nyanyano
A 10-year-old girl, Amandah Odoom, has been electrocuted after an Electricity Company of Ghana(ECG) cable fell at Gomoa Nyanyano Old Market in the Gomoa East District.
Another victim, a 6-year-old girl who was injured in the process is currently receiving treatment at the Kasoa Polyclinic.
According to family members, the children were playing under the cable on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, when the incident occurred.
Sister Aba, an aunty of the deceased, narrated that she heard the children shouting for help and rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, she found the victims on the ground with the ECG cable on them.
The victims were rushed to the Kasoa Polyclinic but Odoom was pronounced dead upon arrival while the six-year-old was still on admission.
Meanwhile, some residents have blamed the Kasoa ECG officials for the tragedy.
They revealed that that was not the first time some of their cables on the same line have fallen in the area.
The Ankobeahene of Gomoa Nyanyano, Nana Ayi Quaye, said the cables are old, adding they’ve been there for more than 30 years and need to be changed.
He, therefore, called on the management of the electricity company to change the cable immediately to avoid any such occurrence.
