10 arrested for cybercrime activities in Weija

Ten individuals have been arrested in Weija, a suburb of Accra, for their alleged involvement in cybercrime-related activities.

The arrests were made during a joint intelligence-led operation conducted by the Cybercrime Unit of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

The suspects, who include nationals from China and Malaysia, are currently in police custody and assisting with investigations.

Authorities say the arrests were part of a broader effort to clamp down on cyber-related criminal networks operating within Ghana.

During the raid, officials retrieved a large collection of electronic equipment believed to have been used in the alleged cybercrimes.

Items seized include more than 800 assorted mobile phones, several computers, and numerous charging devices. All the equipment has been retained for forensic examination.

A police source familiar with the operation said, “We believe this operation has disrupted a significant cybercrime syndicate. The forensic analysis of the seized devices will provide more insights into their operations”.

The authorities have not yet released the identities of the suspects, but investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of their activities and any possible links to international cybercrime networks.

This latest operation highlights the growing concerns around cybercrime in Ghana and the region. Officials have pledged to intensify surveillance and intelligence gathering to combat the rising trend of digital fraud and internet-related crimes.

The Ghana Police Service is urging the public to report suspicious online activities and cooperate with law enforcement to safeguard the country’s digital space.
