One person is battling for life, while three others are injured after an accident in the Kwawu West Municipality of the Eastern Region.

A Toyota Vitz with registration number GN1851-22 ran into a provision store at Nkawkaw Adoagyiri on Friday, June 14, 2024.

The critically injured person has been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for treatment, while the three injured persons are currently receiving treatment at the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital.

According to an eyewitness, the Toyota Vitz was driven by a female who was heading from Nkawkaw to town.

They claim the driver, who was on her phone, lost control and ran into the shop unexpectedly.

No causality has been recorded yet.

This incident follows a gory accident on the Nobewam on the Konongo-Kumasi Highway, leading to the death of two persons.

The deceased include the driver of a KIA Granbird VIP bus with registration number GE 5099-15 and one other.

Several others also suffered varying degrees of injuries in the accident, which occurred due to a wrongful overtaking.

The Konongo police revealed that the VIP bus was from Yeji and was heading towards Accra with passengers on board.

Upon reaching a section of the road at Nobewam, the driver reportedly overtook several vehicles ahead of him.

During the process, a vehicle emerged from the opposite direction, and the VIP driver decided to move back to his lane in an attempt to avoid collision.

Unfortunately, he ran into a MAN Diesel trailer with registration number GN 6933-11, driven by Abraham Ayama and with another occupant onboard.

Over the years, the National Road Safety Authority(NRSA) and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) have been sensitising the public against the use of mobile phones while driving.

Aside from that, overspeeding or overtaking on major highways also causes frequent accidents.
