The government has commissioned a Charcoal Briquettes Factory at Bamang in the Ashanti Region as part of the one district, one factory policy.

The factory was established by the Agricultural Industrial and Commercial Products Limited (AICP) in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the One District, One Factory Secretariat.

Commissioning the factory, Deputy Trades Minister, Alan Robert Ahomka-Lindsay said the New Patriotic Party-led government is committed to driving Ghana’s development through industrialisation.

“President Akufo-Addo is aware of the high rate of unemployment in the country [and] the government introduced the ‘1-District-1-Factory’ policy to help reduce the unemployment rate in the country,” he said.

He repeated the intention of the government not to build the factories under the policy but rather provide an enabling environment for businesses and individuals to spearhead those projects.

Mr Ahomka-Lindsay said the government has commissioned a total of 200 factories across the country under the 1-D-1-F.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Agricultural Industrial and Commercial Products Limited (AICP), Alhaji Adam Zachariah Sulemana said the factory will absorb some of the unemployed youth in the country.

“Implementation [of the government’s 1-D-1-F policy] will surely help reduce the high rate of unemployment in the country,” he said.
